Hatchery
The PL in Hatchery is reserve to supply only Sureerath
Farm grow-out ponds. No antibiotics and chemicals are
used. The larvae are fed on organic diets of algae
and artemia.
Grow-out
pond
Sureerath farm has a total
of 133 ponds most of them being around
4 rais (6,400 m2) in size. The black tiger
fry are released into seaweed-rich ponds,
where they forage naturally for food.

At harvesting |
In addition the quality
of the prawn is looked at daily and these
checks will include color, shell strength,
general well being etc. These checks are
carried out up to 2 times a day.
Harvesting
Crops are normally ready
for harvesting in 150 to 180 days. This
will depend on growth rate. At harvesting,
the water pumped from the pond goes to
the effluent canal where it flows to the
Organic treatment pond.
The prawns are graded
for size and weighed; the farm targets
a count of 20-30 prawns per kg. This means
that, on average, each prawn weights 35-50
grams. This, Sureerath Farm believes, is
the optimum size for taste and texture.
Capacity
The total production from
Sureerath Farm is about 250-300 tonnes
per year.
